Nortel Networks built a new state-of-the-art facility for their Photonics Division located in Botany, New South Wales.

The key element of the project was to accommodate a ramp-up of a small existing location to a high-tech research and development facility with a 24-hour operational period. The building also required the flexibility necessary to support up to 700 employees on rotating shifts.

Completed within a tight six-month time frame, from inception to occupation, the facility incorporates 3,000 sqm of commercial office accommodation; 2,000 sqm of manufacturing, clean room, and laboratory space; together with loading and storage bays.

Our experts joined HBO and EMTB to complete the design and construct process. Our services included full project management of an 8,000 sqm optical fibre component electronics manufacturing facility, MEP engineering, services construction, clean room and laboratory manufacturing services and process services, de-ionised water systems, central vacuum systems and specialised lighting systems.

Powercor Shepparton

This new modern depot located in Shepparton is an important regional work hub for Powercor operations throughout the Goulburn and Murray Valleys, with local crews responding daily to the needs of customers in the growing community and offers the space for future growth.

Employees at the depot support customers in towns such as Shepparton, Murchison, Tatura, Dookie, Mooroopna, Kyabram, Tongala and Rushworth.

Alongside B2B Construction and Project Management and architects, Gray Puksand, our experts provided the building services engineering and provided ESD consultancy including full design, documentation, and construction phase services for the mechanical, electrical, fire and hydraulic services for the new office and depot facility.

The development includes approximately 1,300 sqm of office accommodation and approximately 5,000 sqm of enclosed depot spaces.

BOC, Linde Gas: New Industrial plant at Yennora, Sydney

A new Application Technology Centre located in Yennora, South-West Sydney, is an industrial and medical gas production and bottling plant that drives innovation and productivity improvements across the Australian manufacturing industry.

The new state of the art facility was officially opened by Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade and Manufacturing. This building will showcase world class welding processes and equipment to customers, industry and educators, with a focus on industry 4.0 technologies that make customers more productive.

Smart welding equipment and BOC’s (a Linde gas company) high-performance gases are used to help Australian manufacturers remain competitive by improving welding speeds, producing high-quality welds, reducing manual handling and improving safety. This facility demonstrates the benefits of welding cobots to semi-automate welding processes to help solve skilled welder shortage challenges and improve welding productivity.

Waterman provided the following services:

Knauf Insulation – Glass & Wool Plant

This 24-hour manufacturing plant located in Newcastle, New South Wales, produces up to 200 tonnes per day of glass wool insulation which operates for 365 days a year. This is an industrial building finished in colourbond steel for both roof and walls near the steel river.

Knauf is an international building materials company that manufactures insulation and gypsum drywall. Their products include glass wool, stone wool, wood wool boards, EPS, and XPS and are designed to improve energy efficiency and sustainable insulation.

We were appointed as building services engineering consultants, alongside Morris Bray architects, for infrastructure utility services, modification and upgrades to authority owned assets such as power substations and/or networks; general light and power, air conditioning and ventilation; and external lighting.
