National Technology Park

Completed in 2019, Industrial Development Authority (IDA) Ireland’s new three-storey Science and Technology facility is situated in the 156-hectare National Technology Park on the eastern outskirts of Limerick city.

Home to 80 leading international companies, the Park provides employment for over 3,000 people. The 40,000 sq ft, L-shaped building is set among stunning landscaped surroundings, with mature trees on all sides. Oriented so that it faces in a southerly direction, the design maximises the penetration of natural daylight into the office floors, flooding the space with light and helping to drive down energy consumption from lighting.

Waterman Moylan provided all civil, traffic and structural engineering services for the scheme as part of an integrated, architect-led design team that was responsible for delivering the facility.

Externally, our surface water design utilises SuDS drainage to control discharge from the site, incorporating rainwater harvesting, roadside swales and a detention basin embedded in the development’s landscaping.

Our team developed the site access design, which includes a new roundabout on the main spine road serving the Park and a new adjoining road leading from this roundabout to the site, which also opens up neighbouring plots for future development.

On completion of the building, the design team, including Waterman Moylan, was retained by tenants, Johnson & Johnson, to design and oversee the fit-out of the building which has since become their new EMEA headquarters.
