Richard Nelson

Richard graduated from University College Dublin in 2009 with a master’s degree in Structural Engineering with Architecture. Since graduating, he has worked for Waterman Group in Ireland and London,

collaborating with leading international architects on schemes ranging from one-off private developments to large regeneration masterplans with complex site constraints. Richard is a Chartered Engineer with both Engineers Ireland and the Institute of Structural Engineers.

His international experience includes lead structural design roles specialising in financial and commercial developments, refurbishment and retained facades, as well as high-rise residential developments with mixed-use schemes. Richard became an Associate in 2017 while working in Waterman’s London office.

Richard has a keen interest in sustainability and innovation in structural design and the built environment. He is highly conversant in detailed engineering discussions and aims to deliver value engineering by minimising the quantum of materials used in construction through utilising advanced approaches to structural engineering and design.
Richard leads one of our Structural Engineering teams who are adept in the use of BIM on all project types. He is a keen proponent of using hand sketches to articulate structural schemes that then evolve into detailed 3D computer models.
