Located in Melbourne, the Children’s Court, involved the design documentation and demolition of outdated facilities in the existing building, refurbishment of existing structures and new multi-storey construction over a new built area of 900 sqm which took place in two stages.
At first the children’s playroom was demolished followed by the construction of a colourful new cubby house to provide young visitors an inviting space that is both safe and calm. Construction of private waiting areas, child-friendly interview rooms, and associated court staff areas also began at the same time.
The second stage of the scheme included the refurbishment of the ground and level one entry foyers, reconfiguration of security areas, relocation of an existing café, new reception counters, and refurbishment of the public ground floor children’s play area and a beautiful outdoor courtyard.
To minimise the disruption to court proceedings the works were completed after hours whilst under strict security arrangements.
Our team worked alongside architects, Bates Smart and client, CSBA, to provide the mechanical air conditioning and ventilation, vertical transportation, electrical power supply, emergency generator, lighting, security, communications, fire services and hydraulic services.
