This £3.8m scheme saw the extensive refurbishment of Hull Royal Infirmary’s Endoscopy Suite. The project involved the refurbishment of the endoscopy unit within the live hospital and a series of service overhauls and modifications to complement the new unit. The works were all carried out whilst ensuring existing services were retained and free of interruption across the remainder of the hospital.
The unit provides four individual consulting and preparation rooms, three endoscopy rooms, a two-phase recovery area and a new seminar room for trainees. Thanks to these new facilities, the unit will now be able to undertake an anticipated 6,500 procedures a year. In addition, the refurbishment also incorporated the addition of a £500,000 high-tech washing machine which ensures the Trust is compliant with all the latest decontamination regulations, enabling the unit to achieve ‘JAG Accreditation’.
Our building services specialists completed the detailed mechanical and electrical design for the renovation which was successfully delivered in a very tight time scale and within budget. This was made particularly challenging due to the removal of asbestos as part of the works, working in and around a live environment and the need to mitigate against nuisance vibration, noise and dust.
