Situated on Sydney’s Market Street, QT Hotel Sydney offers boutique rooms at this bustling location.

Transforming the former State Theatre and Gowings Buildings, the project maintained the heritage shell of the iconic structures, upgrading all services and reinstating key features of both interior and external facades. The scheme joined the two buildings, reimagining the upper floors to unlock space for the boutique hotel which features 196 designer rooms, including eight with disabled access, all whilst conserving and enhancing the buildings historical features.

The refurbishment commenced in early 2011 and completed in 2012, with the building remaining operational throughout the program. The project gained industry recognition, winning an MBA award in the ‘Adaptive Re-use of Historic Building’ category with its combination of history, contemporary design and location solidifying the building as a significant landmark for Sydney.

Working in partnership with Woodhead Architects, Waterman provided the building services design for this remarkable scheme. In addition, our team was novated to the D&C contractor to complete the documentation using Revit 3D, ensuring coordinated delivery for the client, Amalgamated Holdings.
