Sunshine Hospital’s emergency department is one of Victoria’s busiest.
Prior to their major expansion the hospital treated 65,000 patients each year. With the Governments $34.9 million investment into the redevelopment, the hospital can treat an extra 59,000 patients annually, providing more people in the western suburbs with timely and world-class medical care.
In partnership with architects Silver Thomas Handley, a substantial 65 new spaces have been added to the hospital, more than doubling prior capacity. Within this, the hospital features an expanded children’s section, with a child only area providing a compassionate, quieter and calmer environment for children to receive emergency care.
The emergency department also includes a $5.3 million mental health, alcohol and other drugs hub. One of six hubs delivered across the state, the hub at Sunshine Hospital guarantees faster care for those arriving for mental health, alcohol or other drug related issues, fast tracking individuals to specialist and dedicated care more efficiently.
