Surf Coast Secondary College

Published 15th February 2025

Situated in Torquay, Victoria, this project involved the construction of a new secondary college for year 7 to 12 students located on a greenfield site. The new school incorporated classrooms, student support, recreation and staff support areas.

ARCH designed the new college which accommodates approximately 1000 students, with distinct middle school and senior schools; and an indoor sports facility with joint use arrangements with Surf Coast Shire Council. The site of the new college is part of a wider civic district serving the rapidly growing coastal area of Torquay, with the new school designed to be a cohesive community precinct.

Energy efficient design principles with sustainable materials enhance the longevity of the school. A key education focus during this project was giving an environmental responsibility to the student population through interactive real time energy monitoring screens installed in active student zones.

The 8,000 sqm facility was designed based on ESD principles and achieved a 5-star Greenstar Rating.

Our team undertook the full design, documentation and construction phase services for all engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, fire protection, hydraulic and ESD.
